Precautions for daily charging/storage of lead-acid batteries

  • 2024-03-28
Precautions for daily charging/storage of lead-acid batteries:

1. Use the original charger
The original charger is matched based on battery density, charging rate and other parameters. Unmatched chargers will not only reduce the safety of the car, but also reduce the service life of the battery.
2. Lead-acid batteries cannot be charged and used at any time
If there is a lot of power left in the battery, try not to charge it, because lead-acid batteries have a certain number of charges and discharges. If you charge them as you go, frequent charging will waste the number of charges, which will eventually shorten the service life of the battery. .
3. Avoid overcharging
When charging lead-acid batteries, you must pay attention to the time control. Stop charging when the charger shows that it is full. It cannot be charged overnight or even for several days. It is best to charge for 8 to 10 hours. Overcharging is not allowed. Frequent overcharging will cause the plate active material to harden and fall off, causing water loss and battery deformation, shortening the service life of the battery;
4. Prevent excessive discharge
When the battery meter shows about 20%, it needs to be charged and must be fully charged before use. It cannot be lower than 17%. When the battery power is used to 17% or below, the vehicle can only walk and the mast cannot rise or fall. At this time, the forklift does not appear. If the battery malfunctions, it will remind the forklift that it needs to be charged. After the battery is discharged, the vulcanization process will begin. After 12 hours, obvious vulcanization will occur. Sulfation refers to the formation of a layer of white coarse-grained lead sulfate on the plate, which will seriously block the pores of the plate, making it difficult for the electrolyte to penetrate, resulting in a reduction in capacity. Its conductivity is extremely poor, which significantly increases the internal resistance of the battery and reduces the output power. Charging in time can remove minor sulfide. If not charged in time, these sulfide crystals will continue to accumulate and gradually form coarse crystals, that is, irreversible sulfation will be formed, which will further increase the internal resistance and worsen the charging recovery ability. Not even repairable.
5. Prevent battery water shortage
During the charging and discharging process of the electric forklift battery, the water in the electrolyte will gradually decrease due to electrolysis and evaporation, causing the electrolyte level to drop. If it is not replenished in time, the vulcanization speed of the battery plates will be accelerated and the service life of the battery will be shortened. Therefore, it is necessary to check regularly and replenish distilled water in time (distilled water can be purchased in hospitals or chemical stores). When added to the electrolyte, the liquid level should be high. The protective net is about 10mm. Do not use drinking pure water instead, because pure water contains a variety of trace elements and ions, which will aggravate the internal self-discharge of the battery. Severe self-discharge will shorten the battery life.
6. Daily storage
1. Good ventilation: The discharge of the battery will produce hydrogen, which will cause an explosion when accumulated in a certain amount. Therefore, the place where the battery is stored must have good ventilation facilities.
2. Appropriate humidity: The battery storage area should maintain a certain humidity. If the humidity is too low or too high, it may cause battery damage or electrolyte leakage, increasing safety risks.
3. Avoid direct sunlight: Direct sunlight can easily cause the battery temperature to rise, increase the discharge rate, and also accelerate the aging rate of the battery, thereby reducing the battery life.
4. Prevent leakage: The ground where batteries are stored should be acid and alkali resistant to prevent battery leakage from corroding the floor panel. A leak-proof chassis can also be used.
5. Avoid electromagnetic interference: The battery storage location should be far enough away from other electrical equipment to reduce electromagnetic interference and prevent damage to the film.
6. Prevent pollution: Avoid contact between the battery and other items, prevent oil, dust and other substances from contaminating the battery surface, and clean and maintain the battery surface.
7. Periodic charging: Batteries that have been parked for a long time should be properly charged every one month to maintain the battery's power and normal service life.
